Innovation in the Mainland China Insurance Market
AXA-Minmetals Assurance Company Limited is a joint venture between AXA Group and China Minmetals Group with the share proportions of 51% and 49% respectively. It was the first Sino-French insurance company established in Mainland China and also the first life insurer to be approved by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission after inception. The company was established in Shanghai on June 1999.

Established in 1950, China Minmetals Corporation is a large-sized conglomerate primarily engaged in the production and trading of metals, minerals and electrical products. The company also has interests in finance, real estate, shipping, bidding and tendering for engineering projects and investment. In 1992, Minmetals was selected as one of 55 group enterprises in Mainland China which were authorised to operate state-owned assets. In 1999, the company became one of 44 key enterprises managed by China's Central Government. Total revenue in 2004 exceeded US$15 billion and the total volume of metal futures business amounted to more than 285 billion RMB.
